Tolerance, the Need of the Hour

In the juncture of the war cry, unrest, discrimination, violation of human rights and racism, The International Day for Tolerance, becomes the most essential agenda to be observed. To prevent war and maintaining peace, tolerance is the need of the hour. If the awareness of practicing tolerance is increased among the world population it would be possible to decrease the social problems which are facing in our day today life. Besides, today’s world is too dangerous. Within a split second our world can be turned into a fireball by the finger of a single intolerant man.
So, tolerance is a very important thing to be practiced so that we shall not commit any harmful activity against human beings, living creatures and living things which we are living together in our planet. If we have tolerance there will be no exploitation, no human rights violation, no inequity and no conflict at all. Further, tolerance is an essential quality for establishing meaningful Democratic countries in the world.
From time immemorial religions taught us to practice tolerance. Because the prophets knew that tolerance is the source of all positive things but we are still abandoning. The Sermon on the Mount, the Noble Eightfold Path, the concept of Brotherhood and the Oneness are all for peace and harmony. As a true disciple, we have to follow their way to attain peace with tolerance.
Here we can remember the teachings of Lord Budha: “Let us live happily, not hating those who hate us. Among those who hate us, let us live free from hatred. Let us live happily and free from ailment. Let us live happily and be free from greed; among those who are greedy”.(Dhammapada 197,200).
From the history we have learnt that our world is crazy because the intolerant men always thought that they were right and it led them to wars, persecutions, slavery, xenophobia, racism and chauvinism. Experiencing from history we should understand that today’s correction will be for tomorrow’s history. If we do not correct the errors today the future generation will criticize upon us for our ignorant or negligence.
Today, we ifop, observed International Day for Tolerance, because we believe that tolerance is one of the most important qualities to be possessed by good and civilized citizens. We believe that today’s celebration will benefit at least a few people to convince the importance of Tolerance. Intolerance should be returned with tolerance and it should be the most powerful weapon of a non- violent warrior. Sir
